Another example - When using Apple Wallet, the credit card number on the receipt is a one-time / unique token number that does not match the last 4 digits of the physical credit card. This creates a new payment method each time that cannot be traced anywhere.

Depending on the vendor, when AMEX cards used a receipt may show the last 4 or 5 digits thereby creating a new payment method when in fact it is the same payment method. Unsure if this happens with other credit cards…
